Rotary launched the global fight against polio in 1985...but they were told that they would never, ever eradicate the disease.
In 1985, polio existed in 193 countries....TODAY, there are 3 polio endemic countries!
Rotary has helped immunize more than 2.5 billion children.
The number of polio cases worldwide has decreased from 500,000 in 1988 to 44 cases in so far in 2015.
As a part of Rotary's Global Polio Eradication Initiative with UNICEF, the World Health Organization, CDC and the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation -- we are this close to ending polio.

11. Rotary's Four-Way Test
.jpg)
Click here for an 18-second video to hear the correct way to recite Rotary's Four-Way Test.
Is your Interact club reciting Rotary's Four-Way Test at your meetings?
This is something that the 1.2 million Rotarians around the world do at their weekly meetings, and Interact clubs should be doing the same.
WHAT IS THE FOUR-WAY TEST? One of the most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics in the world is Rotary’s 4-Way Test. Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor created the 4-Way Test in 1932 when he was asked to take charge of a Chicago-based Club Aluminum Company, which had over 250 employees. With $400,000 in debt, and facing bankruptcy with $400,000, Taylor looked for a way to save the struggling company mired in depression-caused financial difficulties. He drew up a 24-word code of ethics for all employees to follow in their business and professional lives. The 4-Way Test became the guide for sales, production, advertising, and all relations with vendors and customers, and the survival of the company was credited to this simple philosophy. In 5 years, Taylor paid off the $400,000 of debt, with interest, and distributed one million dollars in dividends to stockholders, in spite of the continuing Great Depression.

Click here for a link to the above video, "Children of the Dump Beads for Hope 2011" (Length: 9:17 minutes) How can one teenager change the lives of others? Watch this video to see how a 17-year old Girl Scout traveled to Chinandega, Nicaragua with a group of Rotarians from Houston, including her mom, and taught the children at the School of the Dump how to make beads from wallpaper. Funds from this project provide students with a fair income, plus is helps support the School of the Dump, and the Betania Trade School that provide the students with a quality education, food, medical care, and a trade school.
The cost is $375 for 100 bracelets, and your Interact club determines the selling price and keeps the profit as your club's fundraiser. This counts as a international service project, and a vocation service project which qualifies as Activity #6 for the Interact Presidential Citation requirement, "Participate in a school or community service project for fundraiser to support one of Rotary's areas of focus."
