
From October 29 through December 12, 2025, our District 5890 Governor Nominating Committee will accept applications for becoming District Governor for the 2028-2029 Rotary Year. Deadline to submit application is December 12, 2025.
One of the most extremely rewarding and challenging positions in Rotary is that of being District Governor. But with a district with the finest clubs in all of Rotary and over 2,000 Rotarians that astound you year-in and year-out with their extraordinary accomplishments, it is also one of the most, if not the most, rewarding Rotary positions you will ever hold. It is a position that I highly recommend you pursue.

OCTOBER 28TH - YOU ARE INVITED TO OUR DISTRICT INFORMAL MEETING ABOUT THE POSITION OF DISTRICT GOVERNOR - Click here for Agenda
Our District Governor Interest Meeting will be October 28, 2025 at 6 PM at Ninfa's, 8553 Gulf Freeway, Houston 77017. Interested Rotarians are encouraged to attend to hear about the responsibilities to become district governor, and to ask questions. - Click here for agenda. The District Governor serves a very important leadership position in the District, and this meeting is an opportunity to learn about the job. Whether you think you would like to ask your club to nominate you for the position or are thinking about that for some future date or you are just curious about the job, this meeting is for you.
WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT IF SELECTED TO BE THE 2028-2029 DISTRICT GOVERNOR?
- 6 months as District Governor Nominee Designate
- One year as District Governor Nominee
- One year as District Governor Elect
- One year as 2028-2029 District Governor
- One year as Immediate Past District Governor
SCHEDULE:
- October 28, 2025: District Governor Interest Meeting at 6 PM at Ninfa's, 8553 Gulf Freeway, Houston 77017.
- October 29, 2025 with a December 12, 2025: Applications will be accepted by District 5890 District Governor Nominating Committee (see "Application Deadline" section below with mail/email details.)
- Applicants must be nominated by their Rotary Club
- The Club and Nominee must be in good standing with District 5890 and Rotary International
- Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 6 PM: Mandatory in-person Interviews. If the number of applicants exceeds the allotted time frame for January 8th, then we will schedule them for Saturday, January 10, 2026 beginning at 9 AM.
- Each applicant will be assigned a specific time for their interview.
- Term of Office of District Governor: 2028-2029

Applications for District 5890 Governor 2028-29 and Rotary resumes will be accepted from October 29 - December 12, 2025 at the home of Mindi Snyder, Nominating Committee Chair, 2169 Wilson Road, El Campo, TX 77437 by mail, or by email to mindisnyder89@gmail.com.
INTERVIEW DATE:
Mandatory interviews of all applicants for District 5890 Governor 2028-29 will take place on Thursday, January 8, 2026 beginning at 6:00pm unless the number of applicants exceeds the allotted time frame and then we will schedule them for Saturday, January 10, 2026 beginning at 9:00am at Bohreer Law Firm, 777 Post Oak Blvd., # 950, Houston, TX 77056
QUALIFICATIONS:
At the time of selection, the person selected as a governor-nominee must:
- Be a member in good standing of a functioning club in the district (RIB 16.010.a.)
- Definition of good standing: The Rotarian must be current on dues to their club and to RI (will be verified by the committee chair); the nominating club must also be current on dues. If the Rotarian transferred clubs in the past year, they must also have left that club in good standing.
- Unless excused by the board, a governor, when taking office, must have attended the international assembly for its full duration, have been a Rotarian for at least seven years, and continue to possess the qualifications in section 16.010. (RIB 16.010.b).
- Demonstrate willingness, commitment, and ability to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of a governor in section 16.030 (16.010.c).
- Demonstrate knowledge of the qualifications, duties, and responsibilities of governor as prescribed in the RI Bylaws (RIB 16.010.d) and
- Submit to RI a statement that the Rotarian understands those qualifications, duties and responsibilities, is qualified for the office of governor, and is willing and able to assume and faithfully perform those duties and responsibilities (RIB 16.010.e).
