Together with Rotary, your Interact club can help raise the funds to help protect children in the last remaining 3 countries which have polio...Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Nigeria.
HOW CAN YOUR INTERACT CLUB HELP?
Have a Purple Pinkie Project (see links on the left of this page), a Bike-A-Thon, Walk-A-Thon, Skate-A-Thon, Dance-A-Thon, Haunted House, holiday event, Movie Night, Pennies-For-Polio fundraiser, sports competition (golf, basketball, etc), have a Zumba event or stationary bike ride at your school or local YMCA, or host a "World's Greatest Meal" event...think outside the box and think of a creative way to get people together either in your school, local restaurant, movie theater, or other business in your community.
While World Polio Day is October 24th, focus on fundraisers and public awareness THE ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR! Work together with your sponsoring Rotary club and and have an event to create awareness and raise funds to help make a difference. WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THE FUNDS YOUR INTERACT CLUB RAISES?
Contact your sponsoring Rotary club, plus visit other local Rotary clubs, and challenge them to fully or partially match the funds your Interact clubs raises. After you hold your fundraiser, give the funds to your sponsoring Rotary club so they can complete The Rotary Foundation's contribution form that they'll forward with the the funds to as a PolioPlus contribution. Remember....the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will contribute $2 for every $1 contributed! Example: If your Interact clubs raises $200 and your sponsoring Rotary club matches with $200, you'll have $400. With the 2-for-1 match from Gates, the total will become $1,200 which will protect 2,400 children from polio!
Since 1985 Rotary and its partners have helped reduce the number of cases from 350,000 annually to 26 cases as of September 2016, and they remain committed until the disease is eradicated. Rotary has contributed more than $1.3 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect more than 2 billion children worldwide. In addition, Rotary's advocacy efforts have played a role in decisions by donor governments to contribute over $10 billion to the effort.
