The Rotary Club of Houston founded the award to honor college football’s best lineman and to raise money to fight the disease that took a legendary coach’s life

Just weeks after Coach Vince Lombardi's passing in 1970 due to colon cancer, the Rotary Club of Houston established the Lombardi Award with the authorization of Vince Lombardi's widow, Marie, and his sister, Madeline Lombardi Werner.  Click here for the "Fact Sheet" about this award.
 
On December 11, 2024 at the Hilton of the Americas in Houston, the Rotary Club of Houston will present the 40-pound block of Texas pink granite Lombardi Award trophy, which is named in honor of Coach Vince Lombardi, to the outstanding College Football Lineman.

It started with the vision of one man — Paul Harris. The Chicago attorney formed the Rotary Club of Chicago on 23rd of February 1905, so professionals with diverse backgrounds could network, exchange ideas, form meaningful, lifelong friendships, and give back to their communities.

Meet Our 2024-2025 District Governor, Nancy Anderson

From the vibrant streets of New Brunswick, NJ to the dynamic heart of Houston, TX, Nancy Anderson's journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. In May 1980, she embraced the spirit of adventure and moved to the Greater Houston area, where she attended the University of Houston. With determination and a drive for excellence, she graduated in December 1983 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Industrial Technology.
 
Nancy's career rocketed through the corporate world, where she held key roles as Executive Assistant to the President, Sales Associate, and Sales Manager at top office supply firms. But her entrepreneurial spirit couldn't be contained! She took a bold leap into real estate, becoming a powerhouse Realtor®. Today, she proudly manages the Bay Area Elite Properties Team at eXp Realty, LLC, with her daughter, Krystyna.
 
Nancy's world revolves around her loving family. She is the proud momma of son Michael Beeth and daughter Krystyna Fennelly. Her two grandsons, Cayson and Braydin, are the light of her life. Whether it's cheering at the ballpark on family Saturdays, savoring Sunday backyard BBQs, or enjoying sun-soaked summer vacations at the beach, family moments are the highlights of Nancy's life.
 
Nancy's passion for making a difference shines through her Rotary involvement. Joining the Deer Park Rotary Club in 2004, she later became a vibrant member of the Space Center Rotary Club, earning the title of Club Rotarian of the Year 2015-2016 and serving as Club President 2018-2019. Currently, she brings her energy to the Seabrook Rotary Club.
 
As an Assistant Governor from 2019-2022, Nancy's dedication earned her the title of Assistant Governor of the Year 2019-2020. Nancy is a proud contributor to The Rotary Foundation  as A Paul Harris Fellow, Paul Harris Society Member, Major Donor and Bequest Society Member.
 
Nancy's life anthem, "Most People Are Good" by Luke Bryan, perfectly encapsulates her belief in the goodness within us all. Her passion for Rotary and its impactful work both locally and globally is unwavering. She has championed numerous programs focused on helping others succeed and promoting education, leaving a lasting legacy of service.
 
Now, as your District Governor for District 5890, Nancy is bursting with excitement! She looks forward to engaging in the fellowship, goodwill, and service that all the clubs in the district offer. With her at the helm, get ready for an era of dynamic leadership and vibrant community spirit! It is about to be a magical year as together we share The Magic of Rotary!

Ever wonder why 1 July is the beginning of the Rotary year? Initially, our conventions played a key role in determining the start date of our fiscal and administrative year.

Rotary’s first fiscal year began the day after the first convention ended, on 18 August 1910. The 1911-12 fiscal year also related to the convention, beginning with the first day of the 1911 convention on 21 August.

We are pleased to announce that District 5890 will sponsor $30,000 Rotary Foundation Global Grant Scholars for the 2025-2026 Rotary year.  The deadline for clubs to submit to the District Global Grant Scholarship Committee is November 9, 2024.
 
Global Grant Scholarships support graduate-level study for career-minded professionals and are required to qualify under one of the seven Areas of Focus established by The Rotary Foundation.  Although it is not required in the Global Grant structure, the District Foundation Leadership Team has decided to retain the ambassadorial nature of the scholarship program in District 5890.  District 5890's Global Grant Scholarship Application are now available.
 
 
The scholarship is worth up to $30,000 USD for a year of study outside of the USA. The goal of the selection process is to recruit highly qualified and deserving candidates. This exclusive scholarship will help fund a student, from the Rotary District 5890 area, to pursue graduate studies and service dreams that will have an impact in one or more of Rotary's areas of focus.

Our District 5890 Empowering Girls & Women Peace Committee's special screening of Sound of Freedom (PG-13) was scheduled on the International Day of the Girl, October 11, 2024, at the AMC Houston 8 located in downtown Houston.

We're proud to report that $10,845.59 was raised to support two local non-profits dedicated to stopping human trafficking (NTZ and UnBound)  and raising awareness.

After the movie was over, an "After Party" was held at MacGuffins Bar at the front of the theater. Attached is the PowerPoint we used with all our sponsors.

It was a wonderful, memorable evening we had at the historic Crystal Ballroom at the Rice in Houston,Texas for the Installation Gala celebrating our 2024-2025 Rotary club  presidents, Assistant Governors, and District Leadership Team! The highlight of the evening was the customary swearing in of Nancy Anderson, our 2024-2025 District 5890 Governor. 
 
The event a night to remember as we came together to honor our dedicated members and welcome our new District Governor.

District 5890 Rotary Youth Exchange is recruiting high school students, 15-18 1/2,  to participate in our short-term and long-term youth exchange program. 
 
Rotary International is an international service organization that began in 1905 to help business leaders support and build their communities.  The Youth Exchange program began in 1929 with only a few participants and now over 9,000 students spend their summer or live and attend high school in a foreign country every year.

Our youth exchange program is administered by fully vetted and trained volunteers.  We exchange with international Rotary districts many who we've worked with for several years.  We hope you will take a few moments to read about our program and help us advertise the information sessions using the attached flyer.

CLEAN WATER, SANITATION, AND HYGIENE
Rotary partners with the U.S. Agency for International Development to assist countries in providing safely managed water, sanitation and hygiene services, while sustainably managing water resources.Rotary also works with UNICEF to provide technical guidance in the development and implementation of our WASH in Schools Target Challenge.

The San Jacinto College Center for Petrochemical, Energy & Technology Center in Pasadena was a great facility to hold this great training event!
 
Special thanks to DGE Nancy Anderson and PDG Chris Schneider help everyone better understand the goals for our upcoming 2024-2025 Rotary year.  We also thank the Seabrook Rotarians for volunteering and making it a special event.
 
There were great General Sessions as well as excellent, interactive Break-out Sessions for ... Club Secretaries, Club Treasuers, Membership Chairs, Public Image Chairs, Presidents, President-Elects, President-Nominees and more for other areas of focus.
It was a great time to get involved with all that Rotary has to offer including inspiring sessions on multiple areas of focus.

Ed Pettitt is on a mission to cool down Houston's urban core! 
 
"Houston's heat problem is everyone's problem," says Pettitt, president of the Rotary Club of Houston Skyline and a doctoral student in urban planning and environmental policy. "By addressing urban heat islands, we're taking a crucial step toward a cooler and more equitable future for our city."
 
With temperatures soaring, especially in low-income areas like the Third Ward, Pettitt's work highlights the urgent need for action. Through education and advocacy, he's striving to cool down the city and create a more equitable future for all. What local environmental issues would you like to tackle?

We are honored to share with you that the District Governor Selection Committee conducted interviews on December 17th and have selected CAMILLE HAMILTON of the Rotary Club of Tomball to serve as our District Governor for the 2026-2027 Rotary year.
 
Camille is currently the Chief of Staff over Committees in our District, and she will now also hold the title of District Governor Nominee Designate (DGND) for the remainder of this Rotary year. 
 
She is a seasoned Rotarian with more than 21 years of service to her community. Outside of Rotary, she has a long list of service accolades as well. I won't steal her thunder. Get to know her, and she will impress her with her passion for service. 

A few fun facts:
  • She's a Longhorn. Graduated from UT in 3.5 years.
  • She loves college football.
  • She has 3 grandkids. 
  • She likes Texas Wine.
  • Wednesday Rotary meetings are one of her favorite parts of her week. 
She was worried about not getting her Rotary fix for the next two weeks, but she is going to have plenty of Rotary to occupy her time.
 
This announcement begins a 14-day period of publication for input and challenge prior to formal notice to Rotary International.

Rotary District 5890 and local Rotary Clubs are an integral part of the rich flow of desperately needed medical items to Ukraine and that is gratefully appreciated. As a result, Rotary is part of this very special award given to Medical Bridges for its service providing medical supplies and equipment for the people of Ukraine. You provided funding and some volunteers, and Medical Bridges did what we do best. This would not have happened without the generous gifts from Rotary. Meet Our 2024-2025 District Governor, Nancy Anderson

From the vibrant streets of New Brunswick, NJ to the dynamic heart of Houston, TX, Nancy Anderson's journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. In May 1980, she embraced the spirit of adventure and moved to the Greater Houston area, where she attended the University of Houston. With determination and a drive for excellence, she graduated in December 1983 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Industrial Technology.
 
Nancy's career rocketed through the corporate world, where she held key roles as Executive Assistant to the President, Sales Associate, and Sales Manager at top office supply firms. But her entrepreneurial spirit couldn't be contained! She took a bold leap into real estate, becoming a powerhouse Realtor®. Today, she proudly manages the Bay Area Elite Properties Team at eXp Realty, LLC, with her daughter, Krystyna.
 
Nancy's world revolves around her loving family. She is the proud momma of son Michael Beeth and daughter Krystyna Fennelly. Her two grandsons, Cayson and Braydin, are the light of her life. Whether it's cheering at the ballpark on family Saturdays, savoring Sunday backyard BBQs, or enjoying sun-soaked summer vacations at the beach, family moments are the highlights of Nancy's life.
 
Nancy's passion for making a difference shines through her Rotary involvement. Joining the Deer Park Rotary Club in 2004, she later became a vibrant member of the Space Center Rotary Club, earning the title of Club Rotarian of the Year 2015-2016 and serving as Club President 2018-2019. Currently, she brings her energy to the Seabrook Rotary Club.
 
As an Assistant Governor from 2019-2022, Nancy's dedication earned her the title of Assistant Governor of the Year 2019-2020. Nancy is a proud contributor to The Rotary Foundation  as A Paul Harris Fellow, Paul Harris Society Member, Major Donor and Bequest Society Member.
 
Nancy's life anthem, "Most People Are Good" by Luke Bryan, perfectly encapsulates her belief in the goodness within us all. Her passion for Rotary and its impactful work both locally and globally is unwavering. She has championed numerous programs focused on helping others succeed and promoting education, leaving a lasting legacy of service.
 
Now, as your District Governor for District 5890, Nancy is bursting with excitement! She looks forward to engaging in the fellowship, goodwill, and service that all the clubs in the district offer. With her at the helm, get ready for an era of dynamic leadership and vibrant community spirit! It is about to be a magical year as together we share The Magic of Rotary!

Why Does The Rotary Year Start On July 1st?

Ever wonder why 1 July is the beginning of the Rotary year? Initially, our conventions played a key role in determining the start date of our fiscal and administrative year.

Rotary’s first fiscal year began the day after the first convention ended, on 18 August 1910. The 1911-12 fiscal year also related to the convention, beginning with the first day of the 1911 convention on 21 August.

We are pleased to announce that District 5890 will sponsor $30,000 Rotary Foundation Global Grant Scholars for the 2025-2026 Rotary year.  The deadline for clubs to submit to the District Global Grant Scholarship Committee is November 9, 2024.
 
Global Grant Scholarships support graduate-level study for career-minded professionals and are required to qualify under one of the seven Areas of Focus established by The Rotary Foundation.  Although it is not required in the Global Grant structure, the District Foundation Leadership Team has decided to retain the ambassadorial nature of the scholarship program in District 5890.  District 5890's Global Grant Scholarship Application are now available.
 
 
The scholarship is worth up to $30,000 USD for a year of study outside of the USA. The goal of the selection process is to recruit highly qualified and deserving candidates. This exclusive scholarship will help fund a student, from the Rotary District 5890 area, to pursue graduate studies and service dreams that will have an impact in one or more of Rotary's areas of focus.

  • Maternal and child health

Our District 5890 Empowering Girls & Women Peace Committee's special screening of Sound of Freedom (PG-13) was scheduled on the International Day of the Girl, October 11, 2024, at the AMC Houston 8 located in downtown Houston.

We're proud to report that $10,845.59 was raised to support two local non-profits dedicated to stopping human trafficking (NTZ and UnBound)  and raising awareness.

After the movie was over, an "After Party" was held at MacGuffins Bar at the front of the theater. Attached is the PowerPoint we used with all our sponsors.

It was a wonderful, memorable evening we had at the historic Crystal Ballroom at the Rice in Houston,Texas for the Installation Gala celebrating our 2024-2025 Rotary club  presidents, Assistant Governors, and District Leadership Team! The highlight of the evening was the customary swearing in of Nancy Anderson, our 2024-2025 District 5890 Governor. 
 
The event a night to remember as we came together to honor our dedicated members and welcome our new District Governor.

Join us on May 1-4, 2025 at the Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center which is located on the beautiful and historic Texas A&M campus in College Station, TX.   Housed in a striking glass tower across from Kyle Field (96-yards to be exact) and near the Memorial Student Center, the hotel and conference center provides stunning accommodations for our conference.

Preliminary Applications for the 2025-2026 school year abroad are DUE BY NOVEMBER 30, 2024, so attend one of the following Information Meetings via ZOOM to have all you questions answered by our experienced Rotary District 5890 Rotary Youth Exchange Committee members.
 
Join us for an info session to learn more about Rotary Youth Exchange and our short-term and long-term exchange programs. 
 
Who Should Attend?  Students, Teachers, Parents, Host Families, and Rotarians.

District 5890 Rotary Youth Exchange is recruiting high school students, 15-18 1/2,  to participate in our short-term and long-term youth exchange program. 
 
Rotary International is an international service organization that began in 1905 to help business leaders support and build their communities.  The Youth Exchange program began in 1929 with only a few participants and now over 9,000 students spend their summer or live and attend high school in a foreign country every year.

Our youth exchange program is administered by fully vetted and trained volunteers.  We exchange with international Rotary districts many who we've worked with for several years.  We hope you will take a few moments to read about our program and help us advertise the information sessions using the attached flyer.

The San Jacinto College Center for Petrochemical, Energy & Technology Center in Pasadena was a great facility to hold this great training event!
 
Special thanks to DGE Nancy Anderson and PDG Chris Schneider help everyone better understand the goals for our upcoming 2024-2025 Rotary year.  We also thank the Seabrook Rotarians for volunteering and making it a special event.
 
There were great General Sessions as well as excellent, interactive Break-out Sessions for ... Club Secretaries, Club Treasuers, Membership Chairs, Public Image Chairs, Presidents, President-Elects, President-Nominees and more for other areas of focus.
It was a great time to get involved with all that Rotary has to offer including inspiring sessions on multiple areas of focus.

Ed Pettitt is on a mission to cool down Houston's urban core! 
 
"Houston's heat problem is everyone's problem," says Pettitt, president of the Rotary Club of Houston Skyline and a doctoral student in urban planning and environmental policy. "By addressing urban heat islands, we're taking a crucial step toward a cooler and more equitable future for our city."
 
With temperatures soaring, especially in low-income areas like the Third Ward, Pettitt's work highlights the urgent need for action. Through education and advocacy, he's striving to cool down the city and create a more equitable future for all. What local environmental issues would you like to tackle?

Camille Hamilton  Selected as 2026-2027 Rotary District 5890 Governor
 
We are honored to share with you that the District Governor Selection Committee conducted interviews on December 17th and have selected CAMILLE HAMILTON of the Rotary Club of Tomball to serve as our District Governor for the 2026-2027 Rotary year.
 
Camille is currently the Chief of Staff over Committees in our District, and she will now also hold the title of District Governor Nominee Designate (DGND) for the remainder of this Rotary year. 
 
She is a seasoned Rotarian with more than 21 years of service to her community. Outside of Rotary, she has a long list of service accolades as well. I won't steal her thunder. Get to know her, and she will impress her with her passion for service. 

A few fun facts:
  • She's a Longhorn. Graduated from UT in 3.5 years.
  • She loves college football.
  • She has 3 grandkids. 
  • She likes Texas Wine.
  • Wednesday Rotary meetings are one of her favorite parts of her week. 
She was worried about not getting her Rotary fix for the next two weeks, but she is going to have plenty of Rotary to occupy her time.
 
This announcement begins a 14-day period of publication for input and challenge prior to formal notice to Rotary International.

To  our dear friends at Rotary… Medical Bridges treasures the relationship and friendship that we have with each of you and with Rotary. You have made a blessed difference for us in our biotech lab, in our rural Texas program, in response to international prices, and with your gifts for Ukraine.
 
Rotary District 5890 and local Rotary Clubs are an integral part of the rich flow of desperately needed medical items to Ukraine and that is gratefully appreciated. As a result, Rotary is part of this very special award given to Medical Bridges for its service providing medical supplies and equipment for the people of Ukraine. You provided funding and some volunteers, and Medical Bridges did what we do best. This would not have happened without the generous gifts from Rotary. This war is grinding on, and more help will continue to be needed.
 
This gracious and precious recognition by President Zelensky is special, but every day is special because with your long-standing support of Medical Bridges, you are improving health and saving lives in Ukraine and 104 countries whose needs are dire throughout the world… Walter.
